1) Thommankuthu Falls
A Union of twelve waterfalls is the Thommankuthu Falls. You need to trek a minimum of ten to twelve kilometers amidst the lush forests. Located at Thodupuzha in the Idukki district of Kerala, it is one of the prominent ecotourist sports in the state.
This seven-step waterfall forms a pool at the bottom and you can see a beautiful view of the Western Ghats in the southern part. This waterfall is a union of 12 waterfalls. The froth of the water appears white and you can do boating and fishing here..
Located approximately 18 kilometers from Thodupuzha, the peak monsoon season is an ideal time to visit. You can visit this waterfall on all days from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm with no entry fee.
2) Athirapally Falls
Athirappilly falls is the largest waterfall in Kerala and is located in the Thrissur District. Dense forest covers these waterfalls and tourists generally view the different types of flora and fauna. This fall is popularly called “The Niagara of South India” and Kochi waterfalls.
The downflow of the water gushing from the Anamudi mountains in the Western Ghats through the green jungles gives you a visual treat. The water then flows via the Vazhachal forests reaching the Arabian Sea. Different types of birds attract your attention and you can view the four types of hornbills here
3) Cheeyappara Falls
The Cheeyappara falls is located on the Kochi-Madurai highway in the Idukki district of Kerala between the villages of Adimali and Neriamangalam. You can see the downfall of the water
gushing down from the seven tiers of the rocks.
You can trek and participate in other adventure sports here. You can locate many species of plants and animals at these falls. A base camp is present near the falls that is suitable for several trekking adventures.
- Areekkal Waterfall
One of the best waterfalls near Kochi, this waterfall is situated amidst the lush green forests and small local settlements around it. There is no compromise on the scenic beauty that this place has.
The clean waters, beautiful surroundings, greenery, and woods make this place a wonderfully picturesque location. It can be reached easily and you also have safe bathing spots with good amenities.
- Vazhachal Waterfall
A waterfall near Kochi which is also a recreational and picnic spot is the Vazhachal falls. Approximately located about 60 kilometers from Thrissur, you can combine visiting these falls with the Athirapally Falls which is nearly five kilometers away.
Located in between the Sholayar ranges, the river Chalakudy surrounds a small island divided into three. The waters move further down and join the river Chalakudy’s riverbed.

- Valanjanganam Waterfalls
This fall is known locally as the Valanjanganam Vellachaattam, located in the Idukki district of Kerala. You can reach these falls about 1 kilometer from Murinjapuzha and nearly 5 kilometers from Kuttikkanam.
Situated on the Kottayam-Kumily state highway, this waterfall is generally covered with thick mist. You can find tourists stopping here for refreshments and relaxation.
- Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls
Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls is located nearly 36 kilometers away from the Pathanamthitta District in the state of Kerala. One of the popular tourist destinations, you can find the Kudamurutty village on one side and Vechoochira on the other.
This waterfall starts from the places of Ranni, Athikkayam, Kudamurutty, and Perunthenaruvi. The environment here is peaceful and you will enjoy a good time spent with your family and friends.
